Dana Atkins’ 130 Pound Weight Loss Inspired by Chris Powell, on GMA
Trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell and his ABC TV reality TV series Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition inspired Dana Atkins’ 130 pound weight loss. Her remarkable story was featured on Good Morning America broadcast on April 18, 2012.
Atkins is a 36-year-old cancer survivor who lives in Lafayette, Louisiana. She watched the amazing success of participants on Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition, many of whom lost more than 100 pounds in a year and became motivated to lose weight on her own. With a starting weight of 380 pounds, this is how she says she lost so much weight. Five days per week of workouts — a minimum of an hour of cardio — at the gym, along with cutting her daily caloric intake and never skipping breakfast, and never eating carbohydrates after 5 p.m. She used the Lose It app to track her progress. Dana Atkins now weighs 253 pounds and her goal is to lose 90 more pounds. She also aspires to become a certified Zumba instructor.
As seen on the segment on Good Morning America, Chris Powell paid her a surprise visit at the gym one day, and it is captured on camera.
Chris Powell made a live appearance on Good Morning America with ABC’s Robin Roberts and discussed her success. Her story typified many stories of viewers who had written to Powell and let them know of their successful weight loss efforts; in the taped segment he showed pictures, videos and webcam conversations with a few of them.
He also shared some of the weight loss tips which are detailed in his recently published book, Choose to Lose: The 7-Day Carb Cycle Solution. It’s the very same diet plan and strategy which has helped those participants on Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition lose the hundreds of pounds, collectively that inspired Dana Atkins.
